Western Regulators Forum

Western Regulators Forum - July 6, 2018

A Strategic Plan and revised Terms of Reference have been adopted by the Western Regulators Forum (WRF), originally formed in 2014 to promote collaboration and pursue mutual priorities among oil and gas regulators in Western Canada.

The WRF is established under the direction and authority of the President and CEO of the Alberta Energy Regulator, the Commissioner and CEO of the British Columbia Oil and Gas Commission (Commission), the Deputy Minister of Energy and Resources for the Government of Saskatchewan, the CEO of the National Energy Board and the Executive Director of the Government of the Northwest Territories Office of the Regulator of Oil and Gas Operations.

The structure of the WRF includes a Board, Executive Committee and Secretariat of the member organizations. The chair of these committees currently resides with the Commission and will rotate to Saskatchewan in April, 2019.

A Strategic Plan - consisting of the vision, goals and mandate - and a revised Terms of Reference were recently approved by the Board.

The WRF is currently collaborating on several projects including incident reporting, strategic use of standards in regulation, indigenous engagement, transparency and pipeline regulation opportunities.
