The BC Oil and Gas Commission is the province’s independent regulator of oil and gas activities and is responsible for permitting and overseeing petroleum and natural gas operations in British Columbia.

The Commission, as an agent of the Crown, fulfills the Crown’s obligation to consult with Indigenous Nations prior to the authorization of activities under the Oil and Gas Activities Act and related specified enactments for which the Commission is the responsible decision maker.

The Commission looks for opportunities to effectively engage with communities across the province of British Columbia to encourage the participation of Indigenous Nations and peoples in processes affecting them.

Indigenous Education Program

The Commission's Indigenous Education Program is a partnership with several post-secondary institutions across the Province to provide scholarships and training programs for Indigenous peoples.

Natural Resource Aboriginal Liaison Program

Established in 2014, the Aboriginal Liaison Program (ALP) is a partnership between Indigenous communities, the BC Oil and Gas Commission and other natural resource agencies.
